Toray Advanced Film has just begun mass production of its latest invention – a new type of coating that is able to repair itself in just about 10 seconds.

Dubbed “Self-cure Coat Film,” the coating represents a film that can cure scratches due to a “self-repairing layer” which includes “high viscosity and elasticity as well as cushioning characteristics.”

The company carried out a test in which the film has been scratched for over 20,000 times and it always managed to repair itself.

However, there’s a limit at which the coating won’t be able to work properly – when the film is pierced all the way through. This means that your handset will be permanently scratch-resistant but the film won’t protect it from piercing.

The California-based company Virus has recently presented its new line of clothes called StayWarm. The most interesting thing about clothes from this line is that their construction process involved the use of coffee charcoal.

Coffee grounds were recycled and turned into a natural fiber that was used to create a comfortable base layer fabric able to maintain heat close to the skin.

The company says that its clothes can increase surface temperature by 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Virus was able to achieve such a result without using any chemical treatments.

Besides keeping the skin warm, the new garments from Virus are able to keep moisture away from skin. When a person starts sweating, the garment launches its other features, including UV shielding and anti-odor properties.

It would be interesting to note that the company also boasts a line of clothes made of fabric that can keep a person cool. The line is called StayCool and together with the StayWarm line it was unveiled at the Snowsports Industries America (SIA) show that took place in Denver, Colorado.

At the moment the StayWarm line includes the Coffee Charchoal Long Sleeve Fitted top, available for $38; Long Sleeve Compression Crew Neck that one can purchase for $48; Men’s All Weather Performance Boxer wearing a price tag of $30.50; Men’s Stay Warm Boot Cut ¾ Length Compression Pant that can be bought for $54.50 and a Men’s Stay Warm Form Core Warmer Sleeveless Top for $60.99.

Woolly mammoths ruled our planet about 10,000 years ago but a group of scientists in South Korea decided to do something to bring back these animals.

Several academics from Russia decided to collaborate with Hwang Woo-Suk from Sooam Biotech Research Foundation in South Korea with the goal of trying to clone the extinct mammoth.

To carry out the cloning operating, Korean scientist will use bone marrow collected from well-preserved mammoth bones that researchers discovered in summer of 2011 in the thawed.

Researchers from Sooam look forward to implanting the nucleus of a woolly mammoth cell into an elephant egg. Thus they plan to create a mammoth embryo. The next step will involve placing the embryo in an elephant womb.

Despite the fact that Hwang Woo-Suk was disgraced in 2006 after it was revealed that a number of his experiments on developing human stem cells proved to be faked, he still managed to carry out several successful cloning operations. He was the first to clone a dog called Snuppy. Hwang Woo-Suk also cloned cows and coyotes.

According to Sooam scientists the research will start later this year. This is of course if Russians ship the mammoth remains and do this on time.

Scientists have been working on the creation of artificial skin for a long time. The final goal was to use the artificial skin in wounded soldiers and bio-medical research.

Recently a group of researchers at the University of Southern Mississippi managed to take the effort to a new level. They developed a new type of plastic that resembles human skin. The new material starts bleeding when scratched and is able to heal itself. It is worth mentioning that the plastic does not really bleed, it simply changes its color to red to signal that it’s damaged.

Scientists are working with the same type of plastic that is today used in car fenders – the damaged region can be repaired by being exposed to light.

According to Professor Marek W Urban of the University of Southern Mississippi, the new material attempts to mimic nature and namely human skin – it shows a red signal when something’s wrong with it and afterwards heals itself when exposed to visible light, temperature or pH alterations.

Unlike other plastic skins, the new one can continuously heal itself almost like real human skin. It’s no wonder that Department of Defense decided to fund the project, with the goal being the use of the invention in wounded troops.

The American Heart Association published in its journal Circulation a study that says that watching television or sitting for a long time in front of a PC can considerably increase the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

According to the study, which involved the participation of 7,000 Australians, watching TV increases the risk of heart attack by 80 percent. Researchers analyzed the study participants based on the amount of time they watched television, informs TG Daily. They observed them for 6 years and discovered that every hour a person spent in front of the TV increased the risk of heart attack by 18 percent.

The numbers presented in the study do not include other elements that could lead to heart disease, such as obesity and smoking. The study also showed that watching TV increases the risk of cancer development by 9 percent.
